Complex Emergency: An acute event which involves some combination of civil strife, food shortage, and population displacement.
Contaminated: Direct physical contact with a hazardous material has occurred and the substance remains on the body or clothing.
Disaster: Any event which overwhelms the EMS or Hospital resources at the given time. Usually considered to be a low probability but high impact event.
Hazardous Material: A substance toxic to the environment or living cells. Includes chemical, radioactive, and biological material.
Medical Disaster: An event which causes a large nunber of patients to be injured and overwhelms the EMS or Hospital resources available at that time.
Multiple Casualty Incident(MCI): An event which causes a large number of patients to be injured.
Multiple Patient Incident (MPI): An event which causes more than one patient to be injured.
